State and USAID: U.S. assistance for Honduras will strengthen democracy and the rule of law, enhance citizen security, and support vulnerable communities and at-risk youth to combat gangs, violence, and narcotics trafficking. U.S. assistance will continue to address food security by promoting the decentralization of government authorities and resources to the local level, encouraging citizen participation in local and national government, and increasing the accountability of public officials. U.S. assistance will also continue to address Honduras’ high infant and child mortality, malnutrition, and poverty rates by improving delivery of health services. The U.S. program will also increase agricultural production and farmers’ incomes, while also promoting renewable energy use and protection of the environment. (Source:
